The Southern Prairie YMCA will be reopening to Members Only, 18 years and older, on MAY 18, 2020 in a Phase 1 approach. Our HOURS will be on a limited basis to ensure proper cleaning and disinfecting of the building until Phase 2. Those operating hours will be from 7-6 Monday through Saturday. Under Phase 1, there will be strict restrictions and protocols put into place to ensure the safety and health of our members and staff. We have been working with the YUSA, Y State Alliance, IDPH, and CDC to ensure that the SPYMCA is equipped and prepared to help control the spread of the coronavirus while our facility is open and keep our staff and members as safe as possible while in the facility. In response to the guidelines set forth by the State of Iowa, the IDPH, and the CDC, the SPYMCA will have a soft opening with only 4 areas available for usage.
Gym– will be used for land group fitness classes on the West side with only 9 members and 1 instructor participating in the class. There will be strict social distancing and sanitation guidelines to follow before, during, and after class.
The East side of the gym will be used for shooting baskets or other fitness activities with a limitation of 5 people on that side of the gym practicing social distancing at all times.
Track– will be available for walking using only the inside lane and practicing social distancing as walkers walk. The very outside lane will be used to pass another member. There will be NO walkers walking side by side.
Weight and Cardio Rooms- due to the size of these rooms, there will only be 5 people allowed in the cardio room and weight room at any given time. There will be an hour limit placed on each individual that enters either of these two rooms. You can only use 1 room at a time. We ask that you not circulate between the 2 rooms as this will affect the count of others that are in the rooms. We ask members to disinfect the equipment before and after they use the machines. We will have a staff attendant in all areas to ensure the guidelines are being enforced and met.
Only the family bathrooms located on the 1st floor and the bathrooms in the vestibule will be open for use.
Areas and Services NOT AVAILABLE in Phase 1:
The pool and child watch area are still mandated closed until further notice. There will be no lifeguarding classes, swim lessons, private lessons, or water classes until further notice.
We ask that you DO NOT come to the Y if you are sick in any way but especially if you are experiencing symptoms of COVID- 19 such as:
Please be advised that at any time we may be required to lockdown our facility again. This is a very fluid situation and we have to be willing to mitigate a response to protect those most vulnerable. We appreciate all our members and the Creston Community. We thank you for staying with us and supporting us during this unprecedented time.
